PBS has accomplished several burner retrofits at various facilities throughout Southern California. The retrofits are mandated by the South Coast Air Quality Management District’s Rule 1146 and 1146.1 on Nox emissions. A Porter Boiler Service technician is performing a combustion analysis on a Johnston steam boiler retrofitted with a S.T. Johnson Low-NOx burner.

A Surge tank and Deaerator/Feedwater tank were installed and put online in an Orange County plant. They were part of an upgrade that added two (2) 300 hp high-pressure steam boilers (phase 1) to the plant capacity. The new Surge tank (left) and new Deaerator/Feedwater tank (below) are connected through a 3” pipe to allow the DA tank to be continuously supplied with treated water.
